F-s8db — Guido de Baysio, Rosarium super Decreto
- Identification: identified, high confidence. The selected commentary on Gratian C.10 q.1 c.13 (Quia sacerdotes) agrees with Guido de Baysio's Rosarium super Decreto. The connected account of Roman laymen and Damasus consulting Jerome is diagnostic, beyond the canon's lemma.
- Transcription: selected source-assisted reading. A Codex reviewer compared manuscript and print images with the candidate text available. The separate image-only reading recovers little reliable text from the faded crop. No full transcription or accuracy rate is certified; there was no human palaeographic review.
- Verification: manuscript and printed images. The opening lower-cover passage was compared with the 1481 Rosarium, Freiburg image 0415. A further lower-cover passage is too faded to establish the wider endpoints.
Catalogue: Leuven, Archief van de Abdij van Park, IIIB1.429; a leaf reused as a wrapper, catalogued as fourteenth century. Image manifest. The first crop comes from lower-cover image ab_park_20210825b_0012_III_B1_429.jp2, native region 620,270,900,300 requested at twice its native dimensions. The cached image was inspected without additional enlargement.
Evidence
The preserved image-only response has six physical rows, the last clipped, and substantial errors and gaps. Its conjectural animalis? is not independent support for the assisted [D]amasus.
Selected assisted readings, crop lines 2–5:
l(ai)cos qui sua auct(oritat)e p(re)sumunt accipe(re) […] / eccl(es)iis q(uo)d viciu(m) p(re)cipue inficiebat oli(m) ro(manos) […] / [D]amasus (con)suluit Jeronimu(m) q(ui)d de talib(us) […] / cui ip(s)e Jero. […] ut seq(ui)t(ur) […]
Slashes indicate physical line changes. Parentheses are proposed expansions; brackets mark missing or uncertain material. The bracketed D is an assisted completion of the divided name. Hidden right-hand endings are not supplied as visible text.
The 1481 edition, Freiburg image 0415, printed folio 206a, lower left continuing upper right, has the same progression: laymen presuming to take church offerings, the vice formerly affecting Romans, Damasus consulting Jerome, and Jerome's ensuing response. The longer printed wording supplies oblationes de ecclesiis and quid de talibus esset faciendum. Those completions clarify the comparison; they are not a recovered manuscript reading. Orthography and abbreviation vary, and the faded response verb is left unresolved here.
An additional lower-cover crop reaches a red initial and the apparent sequence Sanctorum … Salvatoris. It is compatible with the next canon but does not yield enough commentary to establish an extension through q.2. The upper cover is outside the checked sample.
Result and remaining scope
The opening supports the Rosarium identification at the sampled c.13 commentary. The wider endpoints, siglum expansions and full wrapper reconstruction remain unconfirmed. No-hit searches against other glosses do not establish their exclusion, and the running-commentary format alone would not identify Guido. Better images of the faded material would be needed to settle the wider span.
